Icon22 Potter aims to show versatility

Zach Potter seems about as prepared as a player can be to enter the meat market that is the NFL Combine.

The former Husker defensive end and Omaha Creighton Prep product will leave for Indianapolis on Friday morning. He'll do the bench press for scouts on Sunday and finish his testing on Monday. (Note: If you have NFL Network and are a football addict, you can follow much of the combine on television.)

Potter's biggest goal?

"I think just showing them how athletic I can be," Potter said. "Obviously right now with my size and stuff I'm kind of a tweener. I could play in the 4-3. I could play in the 3-4. I guess just try to show them my athletic ability and my versatility -- that I can play inside or outside."

The 6-foot-7, 280-pound Potter is coming off a senior season at Nebraska in which he had 47 tackles, 16 tackles for losses, 5.5 sacks and three blocked kicks. Approaching this week, he said he feels a combination of excitement and nervousness.

"In a perfect world, you go to Indianapolis and test great and come Pro Day in Lincoln in March, you don't have to do anything. But realistically, that's probably not going to happen because they put you in the worst conditions possible for testing out there. It's an exciting week but it's also nerve-wracking knowing it's probably the most important week of your life right now."

Potter will have come Husker company chasing their dreams with him.

Lydon Murtha and Matt Slauson were scheduled to leave today. Marlon Lucky is slated to leave Thursday. Like Potter, Cody Glenn will leave on Friday. Nate Swift will also be there.

"I think we'll definitely try to hang out," Potter said. "Since those guys are going before us, we'll definitely communicate about what it was like and try to put our best foot forward."

Potter really came into his own this year, early on I thought he'd be better at TE with the lack of ability there and his inability to make plays...glad he proved me wrong!

Wish the kid well. I think he has a decent shot, like he said in the article showing off his versatility will be his biggest strong suit.
