Icon28 What will it take?

Well, it's that time of year again. Time for the "what if" game in regards to Nebraska's chances for the NCAA Tournament.

Saturday's 58-55 victory over No. 16 Texas has sparked such conversation. Steve Sipple discussed it in his column today.

Nebraska, 15-7 overall, is 5-4 in the Big 12 and tied with Kansas State for fourth place.

What does Nebraska need to do to get on the NCAA bubble?

For starters, win the remaining home games: Colorado, Texas A&M and Iowa State. That seems manageable.

Win, at the very least, one remaining road game. Missouri and Kansas figure to be unlikely. Kansas State will be a huge game. Baylor, on the other hand, seems to be circling the drain after its loss Saturday to Texas Tech. The Bears are 3-6.

Will a 9-7 record secure a No. 4 seed in the Big 12 Tournament? That seems the best-case scenario for this team. Nebraska then must win at least one game in OKC, and that only gets NU to 20 wins -- what used to be considered a benchmark for NCAA status, but probably not this year with the down Big 12.

The league figures to get four teams, and likely no more. OU, KU and Mizzou are locks. So it's that battle for fourth ... which makes Nebraska's victories over K-State, and especially Texas, loom large.

Also looming are those losses to UMBC, Oregon State and Iowa State. Oh, what if.

HHHmmmm, I would of thought that 20 wins gets them in. Will take a good effort to pull that out with only 7 games left before the Big XII tourney. If the LJS staff is right and 20 alone won't get them in, then maybe 2 wins in the conference tourney is what it will take. Anyway I voted in my poll that NU will make it to the dance and I stand by that, because I think 20 wins will get them in.
