Much speculation is surrounding the 1st overall pick of this year's NFL Draft. It seems to me that speculation always surrounds this pick. It has to be one of the most stressful picks of all in the entire draft, if not the most stressful. So here the Lions sit, coming off a history-making 2008 campaign with a perfect 0-16 record. It stands to reason that with so much work needed to be done in Detroit, and with so many good players that usually sit atop the draft board, where should the Lions go?
Matthew Stafford is obviously a common choice. And why not? I mean the kid is an amazing athlete and quarterback. He appears to have some good quarterback knowledge to back up the game play as well. Is he #1 pick material? Guess we'll have to see what the Lions think. Possible draft picks also sit at the Tackle position. Jason Smith, possibly Eugene Moore. Truthfully, the possibilities at #1 are endless. Why? Because every single player is still on the board. You can go wherever and do whatever you want with this pick. Here's my bias in what I think they should do. Feel free to argue. From a major biased perspective, I really want them to go with Stafford. If they go with Stafford, chances are that the Rams go with the top Tackle (Jason Smith?) to fill a major void left by Pace. So, here we are at #3 with my Chiefs. My Chiefs can then easily pick up on the most athletic player in the draft, Aaron Curry. I'm ready to walk away with him. Suit Curry up in the Red & Gold boys, I'm ready to see him in Aarowhead alongside Derrick Johnson at LB. From a pure analyst perspective, I think the Lions still have to go with Stafford. The Bears just traded away a huge chunk of their draft for a man named Jay Cutler. What will he do? He will crucify the Lions if they don't have a franchise quarterback to play with him. Stafford is the logical choice then at #1 because Freeman & Sanchez neither one are deserving of the top pick. So there you have it. My biased and unbiased reasons why the Lions should take Stafford at #1. Thoughts? |

I know the team went 0-16, but I am not sure that is totally reflective of the overall talent level there. IF they are absolutely HORRIBLE all over then they should go O-Line, always build your team inside out.

With the #1 Pick the Lions select......................Michael Crabtree!!!!! Yes that is right, ANOTHER WR!!!! Because we all know that is what the fans want and expect out of their Lions, a new WR each and every Year!!!!

ha ha. Nice. Hopefully with the new GM in town they won't go that route. They used 3 or 4 of their last few first round picks on a WR and only have one of them currently on the roster I think. Pretty sad story to be quite honest. Detroit, where promising careers go to die. *sigh*

I don't know who the Rams plan on taking, I haven't really followed them closely the last several years since I am out of the area. I just know they aren't good, and I thought Incognito was playing for them?

I thought so, wasn't there a highlight last season of him getting a penalty that cost the Rams the game or something? Thought he got a 15 yarder that took them out of FG range, maybe against the Redskins?
