Default Madden Retires!

I heard one man (Ebersol) on NFL Network talking about Madden's retirement and he said that Madden was the greatest sportscaster of all-time. I must be missing something because I can't stand John Madden. Why do we need him to tell us that if there's a yellow flag on the field that one of the players must have broken a rule. And I really don't need him to reiterate with his stutter that the interception occurred when when when when the quarterback threw the ball to the wrong team. No offense, but best sportscaster of all time. Come on? What about Dickie V? I mean is there anyone who can make a game more exciting than that guy? Madden is just Mr. Obvious with a stutter. Dickie V. can make you excited about a game that you don't care about. Or what about the all-time great Cubs sportscaster (name?)? I think saying Madden is the greatest of all-time is a little over the top. Just my thoughts. Yours?

He is an icon in the NFL and a household fixture on sundays. The voice may get to you by the Second half but I guess im used to it. Hope Madden 2010 still comes out. Enjoy retirement big JM.

My neighbor was more bummed because he was nervous that the Madden games wouldn't come out anymore. ha ha I guess he has his priorities in the right place. I'm sure the games will still come out. I don't see why they wouldn't.

A Husker Hooligan isn't a street hooldum that fights with rival fans. Rather, a fan who is deeply passionate for the the best team in the land...

when Madden came onto the scene - he was like nothing ever before. Remember this was before ESPN & Fox had their studio shows - and CBS & NBC were very straight laced. In the 80's he was a breath of fresh air.

skrz I couldn't agree with you more. It is hard to find a color guy as annoying as JM. I mean he uses the telestrater to tell me that the RB ran to the left. No nuances, no in-depth analysis as to why a play worked or didn't work, absolutely nothing of value comes out of his mouth. The only time I can stand him is during the T-Day broadcasts because he focuses on amusing things like how far down the O-Linemen's pants is the sweat line or shoving his hand into a Turducken. I will grant you that the Madden game is awesome, other than that I have no use for the man.

Maybe, but I still can't stand him.

Well, that may be true. But it's 2009 and he is no longer giving me anything fresh. It's just the same thing over and over. Most of the analysis I can say before he does and IMHO it's not nearly as annoying. We need another breath of fresh air in the sportscasting scene soon. Musburger drives me crazy too.

Agreed - Madden is about 15 years past his prime. I just wanted to acknowledge his past greatness.

I also don't think the video games will end anytime soon. Way too much $$$$ rolling in with those. Heck, he could probably buy the Raiders from Al Davis if he wanted too...... which might not be such a bad idea.

As a Chiefs fan, I like the idea of just letting the Raiders destroy themselves. Possibly feed on themselves under the direction of Davis until they aren't even a part of the league anymore. I would be cool with that. Speaking strictly from a Chiefs fan perspective.
