LAWRENCE, Kan. — This should temper the comparisons to top-ranked Connecticut.

Yes, the Nebraska women’s basketball team improved to 22-0 Wednesday night, but it took everything the Huskers had to rally past inspired Kansas 67-60 at Allen Fieldhouse.

The third-ranked Huskers led 30-20 at halftime, but Kansas responded by scoring on its first 11 second-half possessions to take a 43-41 advantage.

The Jayhawks, who lost preseason Big 12 player of the year Danielle McCray to injury last week, pushed their lead to 53-48 on a jumper by Sade Morris with 8:10 remaining, but NU responded with a 7-0 run at the start of a 12-2 spurt to go in front for good.

Defense sparked that turnaround, as in KU’s 11 possessions after Nebraska had gone up by five points, KU committed seven turnovers.

Senior forward Kelsey Griffin, in foul trouble throughout the contest, paced Nebraska with 17 points, while senior guard Vonnie Turner, also plagued by fouls, added 15.

NU returns to action Saturday at Missouri.
